Books are items in Dredge that are found or given as a reward for completing Pursuits. They are read passively while time moves, unlocking buffs for you and your equipment once completed.
There are a total of 13 books in the game and The Pale Reach DLC, and you can discover what they are and how to unlock them here:

Sustainable Fishing | 10% chance to not reduce fish stocks when catching a fish with a rod | Complete the Packaged Delivery Pursuit |
Rods, Reels, and Rigs | Rods will reel fish in 10% more effectively | Given to you by the Fishmonger |
Correct Engine Operation | Engines provide 5% more movement speed than listed | Given to you by the Shipwright |
The Engineer’s Companion | Equipment types that use durability will lose it 10% slower | Complete the A Place to Rest Pursuit and speak with the Builder at Steel Point |
The Relaxed Mind | 10% resilience to panic | Given to you by the Trader |

How to read books in Dredge
To select a book to read in Dredge, you need to open your cargo and then select the book you want to read – it’s as simple as that. When reading the book, it’ll be marked as “On Shelf” in your cargo, and you’ll see a completion percentage beside the book.

Only once a book has been read – a notification will appear on-screen – will you be able to see the buff it provides you with, and these are applied automatically without you having to do anything.
