10 games we want to see on the Nintendo Switch 2

With the official Nintendo Switch successor console reveal just around the corner, I’ve decided to put together a list of games I think all cosy gamers would want to see on the upcoming platform. While this list is by no means official, a boy can dream, right?

1. Coral Island

Coral Island was released in Early Access for PC in 2022, and with the 1.0 launch, it was released on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series consoles in 2023. Coral Island was originally planned to release for the Nintendo Switch, but Humble Games’ restructuring last year meant developer Stairway Games had to pause development. There’s been no confirmation if Coral Island will ever come to the Switch, but if it does, the Switch 2 would be the perfect home for it.

2. An updated Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy launched for the Nintendo Switch in November 2023, and while it’s fantastic to be able to explore Hogwarts Castle on the go, it still leaves a lot to be desired. Although the devs did a great job porting the game, it still suffers from some unfortunate visual issues, loading issues, and changes to Hogwarts that aren’t on other consoles due to the Switch’s weaker specs. A port to a stronger Switch 2 could make the game much more enjoyable and offer a truly magical experience.

3. Tiny Bookshop

Tiny Bookshop is an upcoming Steam game that allows you to open a small, travelling bookshop in the coastal town of Bookstonbury-by-the-Sea. With the ability to stock and decorate your shop, set it up in different locations, and interact with customers, it sounds like the perfect experience for the Switch. I mean, can you imagine running your seaside bookshop while at the beach in real life? Amazing.

4. Fields of Mistria

While I haven’t tried it yet, I’ve seen a lot of cosy gamers share huge love for Fields of Mistria, a farm life-sim that takes a lot of inspiration from the old Harvest Moon series. Using a pixel art style with a gorgeous pastel-colour scheme, the game tasks you with helping the town of Mistria recover after an earthquake. There’s farming, magic, socialising, romance, and more. It launched in Steam Early Access last August, so it might be a while before we might see it anywhere else. Still, the Switch 2 would be perfect for the game!

5. Wanderstop

Another upcoming game is Wanderstop from the creator of The Stanley Parable. The game will release in March for PS5 and PC, and it follows former warrior Alta as she decides to heal from her trauma by opening and running a tea shop. Expect to harvest and grow ingredients, tea brewing, shop management, and more. Now doesn’t that sound perfect for late-night Switch binge-sessions?

6. One Move Away

Fans of Unpacking need to give One Move Away some attention. The upcoming game, announced at the 2024 The Game Awards, requires you to pack belongings and load them into a car while experiencing three interwoven storylines and learning about the game’s characters based on what they take or leave behind. It’s coming to PC, Xbox, and PlayStation this year, and we think a launch on the Switch 2 would round that up nicely.

7. Planet Coaster

Planet Coaster is an oldie but it’s a goodie. The 2016 game allows you to create and manage the theme park of your dreams with unlimited customisation. A Console Edition was released in 2020 for PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and I think it’s time the sim made its way to the Switch, albeit the more powerful Switch 2.

8. Kena: Bridge of Spirits

An official screenshot from Kena: Bridge of Spirits.

Although more action and adventure-focused, Kena: Bridge of Spirits has a charming and cosy Pixar quality to the game. Featuring a touching story that follows Kena, a spirit guide, as she helps deceased people move on to the spirit world while struggling with her own grief. It’s gorgeous, comes with cute little companions known as Rot, and features some excellent platforming and puzzles, making it perfect for those who want a story-focused cosy game. Come on Nintendo, make it happen!

9. The Sims 4

An official screenshot from The Sims 4.

The Sims is the most famous life-sim of all time, and it’s still not on the Switch despite launching on PlayStation and Xbox. A more powerful Switch 2 console could hopefully handle the game and its range of expansions, allowing you to help your Sims or make their life a misery from the comfort of your own bed. The base game is free too, so it’s a no-brainer!

10. A new Animal Crossing

An official screenshot from Animal Crossing: New Horizons.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons helped put cosy gaming on the map. Although there was a community before the game launched, New Horizons certainly helped expand it. Decorating my island was a fantastic experience, but I miss elements of previous games – Nook upgrades anyone? – and I think it’d be great to see a larger Animal Crossing game on the Switch 2 with more villagers, NPCs, shops, and some important QoL changes.

What are your thoughts? Did I miss anything? And what are you looking forward to play on the next Nintendo console?
