15 cosy witch games that offer a magical experience

There are dozens of witch-themed cosy games available for you to play, but I’ve curated a short list of 15 titles based a combination of my own enjoyment and thoughts, as well as that of other people’s. If you’re looking for a brand-new cosy witch game to play, check my list below.

1. Little Witch in the Woods

In Little Witch in the Woods, you play as Ellie, an apprentice witch learning magic while helping the charming creatures of a nearby mystical forest. Gather ingredients, brew potions, and help villagers with their daily struggles on your journey to help Ellie become a formal witch. The game features gorgeous pixel art, a cosy story-driven experience, and exploration-based gameplay with hidden secrets to uncover, cats to communicate with, creatures to befriend, and lore to unravel.

2. Wylde Flowers

As Tara, you move to a small island town to help your grandmother’s farm only to discover your family’s secret witchcraft legacy. You’ll need to balance everyday farming life – tending to crops and harvesting – with spell casting, potion brewing, and secret coven meetings. Alongside all of that, you’ll befriend the locals, form relationships, find love, and experience a deep, emotional story. Wylde Flowers also works great on Steam Deck for anyone who has one!

3. Witchbrook (Upcoming)

Witchbrook is a Stardew Valley-inspired life sim set in the magical academy of Witchbrook, where you play as a young witch-in-training. Attend classes, complete assignments, earn badges, and practice your skills by putting them to the test while exploring the gorgeous seaside town of Mossport. And don’t forget to make friendships with your fellow students, go on romantic dates, and unravel unique stories while customising your character and, once you’ve graduated, helping the town by delivering hand-crafted homemade goods to your neighbours.

4. Noita

For those who aren’t big on classic farming sims, roguelike Noita offers a very different experience. In this procedural dungeon-crawler, every pixel is physically simulated and destructible. You combine spells to create your own magic, using it to defeat enemies or interact with the environment in chaotic ways. Whether setting enemies on fire, creating black holes, or flooding caves, Noita’s open-ended magic system offers complete experimentation in a unique world that’s different every time you play.

5. Black Book

Black Book is a dark fantasy RPG inspired by Slavic folklore, where you play as Vasilisa, a young witch who abandons her destiny as a sorceress to marry her beloved until the dream is shattered when they die under mysterious circumstances. To bring back her lost love, she embarks on a journey to find the legendary Black Book, a powerful artefact that grants wishes to those who uncover all seven of its seals. The game blends turn-based deck-building combat with puzzle-solving, allowing you to craft spells and battle demons from Slavic mythology for an exciting, but somewhat cosy experience.

6. Wytchwood

Wytchwood places you in the shoes of an old witch of the woods living in a storybook-inspired world. Armed with her spellbook, she explores enchanting forests and eerie swamps, gathering materials to brew potions and solve puzzles. With a darkly humorous narrative, intricate crafting mechanics, and gorgeous hand-painted visuals, Wytchwood is a laid-back yet immersive game that is perfect for anyone after a relaxing game with exploration, magic, and mischief.

7. The Sims 4: Realm of Magic

The Realm of Magic expansion for The Sims 4 introduces spellcasting, potions, and magical duels to the franchise. Become a witch or wizard, learn spells, craft elixirs, travel to The Magic Realm, and uncover mystical secrets. With new magical objects, familiar spirits, and supernatural gameplay elements, the Realm of Magic expansion lets you weave witchcraft into your Sim’s everyday life.

8. Cozy Grove

In Cozy Grove, you’re placed on a haunted island and must play as a Spirit Scout helping ghostly residents find peace. You’ll need to complete daily tasks, gather resources, and explore the island while uncovering the rich backstories of each spirit and restoring colour to the island. Featuring a hand-drawn art style, a relaxing atmosphere, and real-time progression, Cozy Grove is heartwarming, wholesome, and something you’ll want to keep playing for a long time.

9. Strange Horticulture

You’re the owner of Undermere town’s local plant store, Strange Horticulture. Explore the town’s surrounding world to find, study, and sell new plants, but remember to remain vigilant to avoid danger. Pet your cat and help customers with their ailments while working to uncover an occult mystery that stretches back hundreds of years. Atmospheric storytelling, a moody gothic setting, and plenty of puzzles ensure a memorable and delightful mystery puzzle game.

10. Reka (Early Access)

Reka follows a customisable witch as they travel through an enchanted world in a house with chicken legs, inspired by Slavic folklore’s iconic Baba Jaga. Build and customise your chicken-legged hut, explore a gorgeous autumnal world, practice your witchcraft, forage for ingredients to concoct potions, and solve quests where you decide whether to help or hinder local villagers.

11. The Cosmic Wheel of Sisterhood

You’re Fortuna, a witch who has been exiled to an asteroid and forms a pact with a forbidden creature in an attempt to regain control of her freedom. Create Tarot decks to reconnect with your witch friends, meet new witches, and delve into each character’s past and future to unravel a political plot that will change the fate of the Cosmic Witch society. Gorgeous, deep, and mysterious, The Cosmic Wheel of Sisterhood will appeal to everyone who likes witches.

12. Potionomics

You’ve inherited your uncle’s potion shop along with a huge debt. Brew potions, negotiate sales, and build relationships with a cast of quirky characters, all while trying to make your potion shop the number-one destination in the world of Rafta. The game features gorgeous hand-drawn animations and a unique card-based haggling system which I haven’t seen anywhere else.

13. Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world RPG set in the Wizarding World. You play as a late fifth-year student with the ability to control Ancient Magic. You’ll need to attend Hogwarts, learn different spells, try your hand at duelling, care for magical creatures, and unravel a mysterious plot that threatens both Wizard and Muggle life alike. It’s giant, it’s gorgeous, and you can spend hours exploring Hogwarts and its surrounding grounds.

14. Loose Leaf: A Tea Witch Simulator (Upcoming)

Manage a team room in this magical tea-brewing simulation game. Experiment with different recipes to create new and unique teas for your guests, all while learning about their secrets through dialogue and Tarot cards. Explore a gorgeous 3D environment, help alleviate your customers’ problems, and discover what kind of witch you are in this calm yet addictive sim.

15. Homestead Arcana

Take on the role of a farming witch in a world that has been corrupted. Build your home and expand your farm while exploring a corrupted land and learning how to heal it from the deathly Miasma. Craft, farm, complete quests, and explore a vibrant but mysterious world where dangerous creatures roam free – oh, and you also get a cute cat familiar named Huckleberry!
