Nintendo has officially unveiled its next console, the Nintendo Switch 2.

After numerous rumours, Nintendo dropped a trailer for its new console, revealing a sleeker, larger, and more curved black design with the first Switch’s red and blue accented colours around the thumbsticks.

The two-minute video confirmed that the Switch 2 will launch this year and will be backwards compatible with Nintendo Switch games, although Nintendo warned that “certain Nintendo Switch games may not be supported on or fully compatible” with the new console.

Nintendo’s announcement video ended by teasing a Switch 2 Direct on April 2nd, 2025 (Yep, I read it as February 4th, too!) and announcing the Nintendo Switch 2 Experience, a series of hands-on events held around the world between May and June, allowing fans to try the console.
