Two-person development studio Alblune has released a demo for its upcoming wholesome game, Squeakross: Home Squeak Home.

You join the Home Squeak Home program and help CEO and co-founder Nini, who’s given you a cosy rat residence, but you’ll need to complete nonogram puzzles – known as Squeakrosses – to earn furniture for your home. The full game will include up to 35 furniture set pieces from different themes, including outer space, cottages, and more.

Squeakrosses are selected from your puzzle catalogue, which features around 60 solvable Speakrosses, done by filling in squares with cheese as indicated by the hint numbers. Completed Squeakrosses reveal 2D pictures of your new furniture, which are quickly transformed into a 3D model.

For those who haven’t completed nonogram puzzles before, Squeakross offers in-game guidance to help players solve the puzzles step-by-step, with the opportunity to revisit the manual at any time for additional assistance. The game also comes with a Logic Assist mode, which shows possible solutions with two options: an ‘automatic case-solving’ button and a ‘show mistakes’ button.

There’s a full Rodent Editor so you can customise your rat with different fur colours and patterns, tail lengths, ear sizes, and up to 11 costumes, and the game will include a Streamer mode that removes content ID-tagged music.

A demo of Squeakross: Home Squeak Home is available now on Steam for PC and macOS, and is compatible with Stream Deck. The full game is expected to be released in 2025, so check back for more details!
