The Sims 2 occult guide: How to become a Zombie, Witch, Werewolf, Alien, Vampire, and more

An image showing three of the different occults in The Sims 2: Werewolves, Vampires, and Zombies.

The Sims 2 introduced occults with its various expansions, many of which are playable. These occult life states allow you to become one of many different supernaturals, from vampires and witches to werewolves and more, with most introducing new gameplay mechanics and interactions. If you’re new to The Sims 2 and want to try playing as any of these occults, I’ve got you covered in this guide.

Playable occults

Aliens

Aliens came with The Sims 2 base game, and they’re one of the easiest life states to unlock. Although they don’t have any special abilities or introduce different gameplay mechanics (They’re ordinary Sims but with green alien skin, large black eyes, and unique facial features), they’re still fun to play.

Through ordinary gameplay, the only way to have an alien Sim is through abduction. Male adult Sims who are abducted will always come back impregnated by an alien and will birth an alien baby three days later. There are two ways to get abducted:

  • Telescope: Male Sims can be abducted while stargazing at night using the Farstar e3 Telescope. There is a 0.05% chance the Sim is abducted, but you can guarantee abductions by using the ‘Summon Aliens’ interaction, which is unlocked via the Knowledge Aspiration Benefit from the Freetime expansion.
  • Electro-Dance Sphere: Male Sims who’ve previously been abducted can be abducted again while using the Electro-Dance Sphere from the Nightlife expansion. Depending on how many times the Sim has been abducted, the percentage of abduction via the machine varies between 1.65% and 2.5%.

As always, you can download mods to increase the chances of abductions and alter them to affect both male and female Sims.

You can also create an alien in Create A Sim (CAS). By default, the alien skin and eyes are locked. You can access them by activating testingcheatsenabled and holding SHIT + N while in CAS to unlock Debug Mode and all hidden skins and genetics, including those of aliens. You can then disable Debug Mode by holding SHIFT + M in CAS.

Zombies

Zombies are blue-skinned Sims who have returned from the dead. Zombified Sims walk with a shamble, cannot run or skip, cannot conceive children, and their Hygiene need decays faster than ordinary Sims. There are three ways to get a zombie:

  • Resurrect-O-Nomitron: The Resurrect-O-Nomitron is a reward you unlock by reaching Level 10 in the Paranormal Career from the University expansion. By calling the Grim Reaper and paying §1,000, you can guarantee a failed resurrection and a zombie Sim.
  • Genie: There’s a small chance that by making a wish to resurrect a diseased Sim with the Genie, the wish can fail and create a zombie.
  • Witch spell: If your Sim is a witch – covered below – they can perform the evil spell Vivificus Zombiae to resurrect a dead Sim as a zombie.

Witches

A screenshot of a good and evil witch from my Sims 2 game.

Witches were introduced with Apartment Life expansion. Arguably the most in-depth life state in the game, Teen, Young Adult, Adult, and Elder-aged Sims can all become witches or warlocks in two ways:

  • Friendship: Befriend an existing witch and ask them to teach your Sim the “Ways of Light” (Good witch) or “Darkness” (Evil witch).
  • Witch spell: As a playable witch, your Sim can cast the Magus Mutatio on your desired Sim to transform them into a witch or warlock.

There are good and evil witches, and all witches have an alignment, which you can alter by studying good, neutral, or evil magic. When Sims become witches or warlocks, they receive robes and hats, along with a cauldron and spell book.

A small selection of spells are available to new witches, but the majority of them must be unlocked by increasing your skill in witchcraft by studying magic through your spell book. To cast spells, you’ll need to purchase reagents from fellow witches or craft them with your cauldron.

Mods can alter aspects of the witch life state, including reducing the reagents required for spells and changing how alignment works.

Werewolves

The Sims 2: Pets expansion introduced the werewolf life state, wherein Lycanthropy-infected Sims transform into werewolves every night at 8 PM before transforming back into ordinary Sims at 6 AM. When they transform, Sims take on a werewolf skin, their energy increases, and their hunger drops. Werewolf Sims can perform several unique interactions, like ‘Howl’ and ‘Savage’, which can turn other Sims into werewolves.

There are two ways to transform your Sim into a werewolf:

  • Leader of the Pack: You’ll need to meet the Leader of the Pack, a wolf with bright yellow eyes that can appear at night on your lot. Befriend the wolf and allow him to bite you, infecting your Sim with Lycanthropy.
  • Savage: As mentioned, playable werewolves can ‘Savage’ other Sims to transform them into werewolves.

Lycanthropy can be cured with the Lycanthropic-B potion, which you can purchase from NPCs like the matchmaker or obedience trainer.

Vampires

A screenshot of a vampire from my Sims 2 game.

Vampires were added to The Sims 2 with the Nightlife expansion. They often appear at night on Downtown community lots, easily spotted by their bluish skin tone, red eyes, and Victorian-inspired clothing. Similarly to werewolves, there are two ways of becoming a vampire:

  • Befriending a vampire: Befriending a vampire can cause them to randomly bite your Sim, transforming them into this unique occult.
  • Influencing: You can influence a vampire to bite a Sim.
  • Bite neck: As a playable vampire, you can select the ‘Bite Neck’ interaction to transform chosen Sims.

Vampires have several unique gameplay mechanics; they do not age, can sleep in coffins, their motives do not change at night, and they cannot die of starvation. However, leaving vampire Sims out in daylight will cause their needs to plummet and can quickly kill them. You can also combine your vampire Sim with other occults – Servo vampires, werewolf vampires, and more – for a unique skin tone and appearance.

If you ever want to cure your Sim of vampirism, purchase the Vamprocillin-D potion from the matchmaker or brew it as a witch.

PlantSims

PlantSims are a life state that was introduced with The Sims 2: Seasons. When transformed, PlantSims take on a green skin with unique plant-inspired clothing. The needs of your PlantSim are changed to the following:

  • Love: Satisfy it by interacting with other Sims and plants.
  • Sunlight: Satisfy it by spending time in the sun or in greenhouses.
  • Water: Satisfy it by swimming, showering, bathing, drinking water, and being in the rain.

A PlantSims’ life is also shortened to just Toddler, Adult, and Elder. You can become a PlantSim by using a LOT of pesticides on crops, although it’s often a very slow process. As a playable PlantSim, you can reproduce asexually through the ‘Grow a Plantbaby’ interaction, which spawns a Toddler. PlantSims can reproduce through WooHoo, but they always produce an ordinary Sim.

You can revert a PlantSim into an ordinary Sim by purchasing the Plantophic-C potion from Garden Club members or the Matchmaker, or by brewing them as witches.

Servos

A screenshot of a female Servo from my Sims 2 game.

Although technically not supernatural, I’m chucking the Servo life state into this guide so I’m covering everything. Servos are robots that were introduced with The Sims 2: Open for Business expansion. They’re fully controllable, but can only be crafted by a Sim with a Gold Robotics talent badge with the Robot Crafting Station. They cost §3,000 to build and must be activated by a Teen Sim or older.

Servos assume the aspiration, personality, hobby enthusiasm, and surname of the Sim that activated it. Once playable, Servos function as Adult Sims. They can WooHoo, but they cannot reproduce, and they have only four basic needs:

  • Power: Satisfy by sleeping or Recharging in the sun.
  • Fun: Satisfy by playing with other Sims, watching TV or movies, dancing, etc.
  • Social: Satisfy by interacting with other Sims.
  • Environment: Satisfy by keeping your environment clean.

Servos can die if they’re hit by a satellite or eaten by a cowplant. They can break when exposed to too much water, causing them to run amok and potentially electrocute nearby Sims before powering down.

Bigfoot

Bigfoot or Sasquatch is a creature that was added with The Sims 2: Bon Voyage. Bigfoot can be found on a secret lot in the Three Lakes vacation destination and moved into your Sims’ family, becoming fully playable albeit with some slight differences. Bigfoot functions like an ordinary Sim with the usual needs, wants, and fears, but Bigfoot can only have Popularity, Knowledge, Grilled Cheese, and Fortune aspirations.

Bigfoot can age into an Elder and can be combined with other occults like zombies and witches, but he cannot perform romantic interactions with other Sims or become any of the other occult life stages. He does, however, have 10 points across all skills and all Gold talent badges, so he’s fantastic for getting promotions at work if you have him get a job.

Unplayable

Alongside numerous playable life states, The Sims 2 has several unplayable supernaturals, including genies, Bigfoot, and ghosts. Learn about them below.

Genies

Genies were added with The Sims 2: FreeTime expansion. Randomly, the Matchmaker can appear on your lot and deliver the Dusty Old Lamp to Sims with high enthusiasm in a hobby and high Lifetime Aspiration. Sims that are a Child or older can rub the lamp to summon the Genie, who offers three wishes to the lot. They can include:

  • Give me wealth: Causes money bags to fall from the sky over time, offering a combined total of §22,000 but increases the likelihood of your Sim getting burgled.
  • Give me beauty: Makes your Sim more attractive to other Sims for four days but NPCs will ring your Sims’ doorbell constantly.
  • Give me a long life: Extends your Sims’ life by four days.
  • Give me the power to cheat death: Sims can plead to cheat death but the chance of success for each subsequent plead is reduced by 10%.
  • Give me peace of mind: Give Sims a permanent Platinum mood.
  • Resurrect: Resurrect a dead Sim or Pet.

Some of the wishes are not available to Children, and all wishes can fail. Once three wishes have been used, the Genie will disappear with the Dusty Old Lamp. Mods can be installed to expand the number of wishes available to your Sims.

Ghosts

Ghosts are NPCs that were introduced with The Sims 2 base game. They appear once a Sim has died and there are several types of ghosts; their colour and behaviour will differ depending on how your Sim died. For example, Sims who drowned will leave puddles across the lot while Sims who starved will browse the fridge and Sims who died of electrocution or disease will reenact their deaths.

Ghosts appear on lots between 8 PM and 6 AM, haunting your lot and occasionally frightening your Sims or possessing objects. Sims frightened by a ghost can die if their needs plummet enough, so be careful if you have ghosts on your lot.

You can remove ghosts from your lot by transporting their graves to a Community Lot or by performing the Expello Simae spell on them, forcing them to return to their graves.
